Golden Globe statues

For the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards, NBC recruited funnyman to host the ceremony for the second year in a row. But will Gervais be the only name making a return appearance at the microphone tonight?

Last year, Michael C. Hall, Alec Baldwin, Julianna Margulies and Toni Collette nabbed acting wins in the Television category. Could we see repeat victories for all four nominees?

At the 2010 event, Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart) bested Colin Firth (A Single Man) for Best Actor in a Drama. Will this be the year that Colin Firth (The King's Speech) takes the statue from Bridges (True Grit)?

Follow our live coverage after the jump and get all of the answers to the above questions and more!

2011 Golden Globe Nominations (TV)

Boardwalk Empire

The Golden Globe contenders for the 2010-11 season were officially announced Tuesday morning in Beverly Hills by Katie Holmes, Josh Duhamel and Blair Underwood.

Last year's Best Comedy Series winner, Glee, lead all television programs with a total of five nominations. Five series -- 30 Rock, Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, The Good Wife and Mad Men -- tied for second place with three nods each.

Here are some of the notable omissions/inclusions from this year's list of nominees:

  • The Good Wife was the only non-cable series to be recognized for Best Drama.
  • The Walking Dead replaced that other horror series (True Blood), giving AMC two nominations in the Drama category.
  • The limitations of the Best Supporting Actor category meant only two acting noms for the cast of Modern Family.
  • Jennifer Love Hewitt has found herself pitted against Claire Danes ... and Dame Judi Dench.

The 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards -- hosted again by Ricky Gervais -- will air Jan. 16 on NBC.

VIDEO: Amy Ryan Returns to The Office Tonight

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, The Office, Video,

While it's still not known exactly how Steve Carell will depart from The Office, I'm guessing his exit might have something to do with the Christmas "Holly" arriving in Scranton.

On tonight's episode, Holly Flax (Oscar nominee ) will make her long-awaited return to Michael Scott's Dunder Mifflin branch. Flax, who's scheduled for eight episodes, will be filling in for Toby once again. (Scott's nemesis will be away on a leave of absence.)

So will Holly finally dump her Nashua boyfriend? Will she forgive Michael for the herpes scare? Tune in!

Comedy Central’s Night of Too Many Laughs

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Specials, Cable, Video,

Stars like Tom Hanks, Betty White, David Spade, Maya Rudolph, Cedric the Entertainer, George Clooney, Jason Alexander, Zack Galifianakis, Drew Carey and the Geico gecko (to name just a few) crowded onto a single set to answer phones for Comedy Central’s Night of Too Many Stars: An Overbooked Benefit for Autism Education -- and they were just the in-between act. The cable network outdid itself on Thursday night, interspersing live phone segments with the pre-recorded, gala event held weeks ago in New York City.

Highlights from the pre-recorded theater event include the tuneful moment that reunited event host Jon Stewart with former Daily Show contributors Stephen Colbert and Steven Carrell. The latter two delivered a rousing song written for 2008 about Captain Sullenberger. The “Chocolate Rain” YouTube sensation made an appearance, and the song was so good even Jon Stewart was compelled to join in mid-chorus.

If you rely on TiVo to record episodes of (and not Outsourced) like I do, you may have missed this extra nugget as well.

At the very end of the recent episode, viewers got a chance to see the material Michael Scott (Steve Carell) used for a Sweeney Todd audition.

Let’s just say Johnny Depp won’t need to worry about the competition anytime soon.

VIDEO: Jon Stewart Addresses Rick Sanchez Scandal

Although it’s been days since Rick Sanchez made unflattering remarks about Jon Stewart (and his own CNN bosses), we had to wait until Monday night to hear Stewart’s response to the controversy.

Despite being called a “bigot,” host feigned excitement about being mentioned by the (former) CNN anchor. “Rick Sanchez knows my name!” he squealed.

Stewart even gave props to Rick—who claimed Jon “grew up in a suburban, middle-class New Jersey home with everything that you could every imagine”—for really nailing “what is was like growing up in Central Jersey in the early seventies. The fortunate son of a single mother in the education field.”

Steve Carell Worries Over Ricky Gervais

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, The Office, Gossip, Rumors,

Steve Carell and Ricky Gervais worries that Ricky Gervais hates him.

The actor, who recently announced he is quitting the American version of Ricky’s sitcom The Office, is paranoid his comic contemporary doesn’t like him because of his modest personality.

When told Ricky hates people who project an “ever-so-humble shtick” during an interview with the Observer Magazine, Steve laughed and said, “Oh dear, he probably hates me.”

The 48-year-old star also doesn’t understand why people are interested in him because he thinks he is “ordinary.” Steve - who has two children, daughter Elizabeth, nine, and six-year-old son Johnny, with wife Nancy Walls Carell - said, “I don’t know how other people perceive the lives of actors but mine is fairly ordinary. I go to work, I come home, I put my kids to bed. If I’m home in time for dinner, I have dinner and then it’s bedtime.”

Despite his apparently mundane existence, Steve wouldn’t change his life in anyway: “It’s not like I’m a wallflower. I think I’m fairly average. I don’t attempt to stand out in any way. I’m not out there. I’m not somebody who’s constantly entertaining, I’m not the life of the party. But on the other hand, I am at the party.”

-Levi Johnston is also pitching a reality program. Loving Levi: The Road to the Mayor’s Office would follow Bristol Palin’s ex as he runs for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska.

-Ricky Gervais insists he has no intentions of replacing Steve Carell in The Office. He says he doesn’t want to get up at “6am every day of the week for 7 years.”

-The Kids in the Hall will be reuniting for an eight-part original series. The comedy troupe can be seen on IFC starting August 20.

-Polygamy will be the focus of a new TLC series debuting September 26. Sister Wives will center on “Kody Brown, his three – soon to be four – wives and their many children.”

Will Ricky Gervais Start Working in The Office?

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, The Office, Gossip, Video,

Steve Carell’s character Michael Scott will be , but producers are already eyeballing a new funnyman to take his place.

According to rumors, Ricky Gervais may soon join the ranks of the NBC sitcom. Gervais played David Brent in the original UK version of .

Executive producer Paul Lieberstein dished on some of the details: “We talked about it today for a while. It’s not the leading idea…it’s not a dead idea.” Of course, there might be some story issues. “[Brent] was fired for incompetence, so we’d have to create some back story for what happened.”

Time for the writers to get to work!
